London Marathon 2019

Chris Mickleburgh finished in 3.04.59 which wasn’t the result he wanted but Martin Hewetson will be pleased that his club record still stands, at least for now!! Chris was on track, reaching half way in 1.21.07 but shortly after was hit with stomach cramps and found it hard to keep any fluids or gels down. He made the decision to carry on and complete the race and considering all his problems ran an impressive time.

Karen Wraighte was delighted at her first outing at the marathon distance and her bronze standard time of 4.05.18 was only 18 seconds adrift of the silver standard time and was also a 40-44 club age record. Karen received the club ballot place and has been worried ever since about letting everyone down but I think we all knew she would run well as her commitment and consistency to her training has been exceptional. Well done Karen – We are all really proud of you.

Philip Wright finished in 5.25.02 but Phil has been suffering from many problems over the last few months and today was just a matter of getting round and completing the race for his charity “Shine”. It was a relief to see Phil cross the line and looking none the worse for wear. Well done Phil for digging in and getting it done.
