BVH had 6 athletes competing in the men’s southern masters and 2 in the inter-counties.
Due to illness and injury we had a few drop outs in the week leading up to the race but still turned out a men’s 50+ and mens 40+ team.
Two of our younger members, Billy and Eva Eccles were selected to run for Norfolk in the inter-counties. Eva running in the under 13’s race and running in a county vest for the first time finished 2nd scorer for Norfolk and Billy running at the bottom of his age group finished 6th scorer. So both certainly justified their selection.
In the highly competitive Southern Masters champs Michael Eccles, who was lying 5th with 100m to go, had an excellent sprint finish to cross the line 3rd overall. It’s so good to see Michael back on form and with another few weeks to the Norfolk County x/c Champs should be in even better shape.
The going was tough on the hilly and muddy course but the 50+ team of Paul Ward, Matt Stone and Frank Gribben, who was running down an age group, and Jeremy Rogers and Matt Crane who made up the 40+ team with Michael had great runs. Had Frank run in the 65+ age group he would have finished 2nd. Well done all.
It was a lovley day and made even better by the stop for fish and chips on the way back !
