The second day of competition saw a highly competitive 5000 metres senior men’s race with one of the stongest fields for some time. With the help of a pacemaker it was won in 15.03.7
Sam Coyne and Ryan Davidson, with the after effects from yesterday’s 1500 still in their legs, had to dig in deep but still ran an excellent race. Sam finished 4th senior man and just 1 second short of a county medal in 15.55.4. This was almost 1 minute faster than last year. Ryan, in his first 5000, finished 6th senior man in 16.16.8.
Simon Partridge, racing on the track for the first time, won a bronze county medal in the 35-39 age group running 17.00.3.
Matt Stone finished 1st 45+ in 18.35.4 coming away with a gold county medal.
In the ladies and vet mens 5000 metres we had three members running and three gold medalists.
Faith Viney led right from the start running very consistent laps and ending with a great sprint finish. She won the race in 18.50.3 and was rewarded with the championship trophy and a gold medal. John Baxter was 1st M60+ in 20.47.1 and Sarah Jay was 1st F50+ in 23.37.9
Sarah then went on to run the 200 metres winning her second gold medal of the day in 38.3. Once again a very successful day for the club.
