First, a message from the race organisers :
“Many of you have heard already that everyone (apart from the last 9 runners) completed the wrong course this evening. Unfortunately a pre-meditated plan by a large group of teenagers, who changed the route with signs and cones, directed people the wrong way just after the 2km mark. This resulted in the next 1.25km being off the course and on roads which we didn’t have marshals or any traffic management on. This could have led to a serious incident but luckily it didn’t. Thanks to the lead cyclist and front runners, they were able to re-join the course at the 3km mark, but this led to the route being approximately 5.25km. It’s possible the race results will be void but we will have to consult UK Athletics. We’re really sorry for this incident and hope that everyone understands that it was out of our control. We have reported it the Police. This evening’s route will now be known as the Alternate EPIC 5km.”
This was really disappointing for BVH (and many other clubs) because some of you might have run a 5k pb if you hadn’t ran approx. 250m over distance. The results were :
Michael Eccles was the overall winner in 16.35.
Leanne Finch 2nd lady overall and only 1 second behind the winning lady ran 18.37.
Al Ross, who might have broken 20 mins for the first time, ran 20.56 was 5th 45-49.
Eva Eccles 6th Senior lady 21.56.
Belle Watkins 10th Senior lady 23.28.
Martin Colley, getting back to racing ran 25.49.
Sally Porter 8th 60-64 ran 32.53.
Well done all.
