This year The Eastern Track and Field Champs were held at Peterborough and It turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year and the strong wind didn’t help matters.
Ryan Davidson, our only athlete to compete, was on the start line of the 3000 metres. He settled in fourth place for the first three laps. He was alert to see one of the runners in front of him struggling in the heat and he moved up a place on the next lap.
He took it up on lap five and he looked to be going much better than his main competitors.
He was passed on the last lap but with 200 metres to go, he was still in with a chance of winning. He dug deep and closed the gap at the top of the home straight but as soon as he got near, the leader kicked again with an impressive burst of speed – and pulled away. Ryan sprinted to the line to secure the silver medal in a pb time of 9.22.
